ICSM Print Industry News: administrations, acquisitions, liquidations and a list of recent company collapses in the printing and allied industries
By Harry Mottram: the continuing difficulties for the printing and allied industries have taken further toll in the tail end of 2022 and the opening weeks on 2023. One the 1st March there is a meeting to make decisions on the insolvency of Large Format Limited on Sunderland. While the Leeds firm Gecko Direct has been acquired out of administration as reported by Jo Francis in the trade publication Print Week. She wrote: “Gecko Direct has gone into administration, with its business and assets subsequently acquired by Charlesworth Press. Andrew Rosler and Tom Bowes were appointed as joint administrators at Leeds-based Gecko Direct on 3 February. Gecko started life as a print management business in 1999. In 2007 it added its own manufacturing capabilities, which expanded to cover all in-house production by 2010.”
In a statement seen by Print Week, Charlesworth Press said the Gecko Direct business and equipment would be moved to its Wakefield site, and “all jobs have been secured for those able to relocate”.
In another report in Print Week Finger Prints Dominic Bernard confirms the company has acquired Absolute Digital and assets from Brightprint. Dominic Bernard wrote: “Allan Kerr and Paul Ackred bought digital and wide-format firm Absolute Digital Print in December, adding to a growing group of printers owned by the pair.
“Absolute Digital will continue trading independently with all staff kept on, and its two current directors retiring in 2023 and 2024. The sale, which was not a part of any insolvency process, has been several years in the making, according to Kerr.”
Dominic Bernard goes on to add: “Brightprint closed its doors on 6 January following the year-and-a-half long illness of its founder and managing director Phil Titford. Titford, while now recovered, told Printweek that Covid had meant the end for the business, which he had founded in 2012. Titford has employed insolvency specialist Leonard Curtis, which has contacted creditors to begin the process of appointing an administrator.”
